Trainee teachers in enhanced international placement
Trainee teachers from our 2017/18 School Direct programme have just returned from their unique enhanced international placement in The Netherlands, with Zwolle University. In the week-long placement, the group of 16 future primary school teachers spent time at Zwolle University, observed lessons in local schools and had the opportunity to network with fellow trainee teachers from other European countries.
The trainee teachers were joined on the trip by Linda Jones from BTSA and Joanne Sharp from The University of Derby.
A unique trainee teacher experience
Linda Jones, Director for School Direct at BTSA, said: “The enhanced international placement in The Netherlands is an annual feature of our School Direct programme. It’s unique – we don’t know of anywhere else in England offering this kind of international opportunity for trainee teachers. It’s a great opportunity for the trainees to broaden their knowledge and develop their teaching skills.”
“Observing how classes are taught in The Netherlands and experiencing first-hand what the differences and similarities between the two systems are has been invaluable for our trainees. It’s an opportunity to learn from our hosts and share ideas, and vice versa.”
