NQT Programme Overview

Our “Getting it Right From The Start” programme for Newly Qualified Teachers was first established in 2013 and since then almost 1000 NQT’s have successfully completed their induction through BTSA.  There are four elements to the programme that support schools and their NQT’s.

  • Network Launch Event – An Opportunity to meet other Newly Qualified Teachers and hear from inspirational speakers.
  • Regular CPD Sessions – Five half termly Hub sessions covering a range of themes linked to the Teacher Standards.
  • Appropriate Body Support – BTSA provide you with all the resources and support you need for successful NQT induction.
  • NQT Mentor Training – Supporting mentors in understanding the role and their responsibilities.

NQT CPD Sessions (click for details)

NQT Session 1 – What Works?

Thursday 7th November 2019 (8.45 – 11.45am)

What does research tell us about effective teaching and learning?

This session introduces research sources that encourage evidence informed practice.

Linked to Teacher Standard 4 – Looking at how to plan and teach well structured lessons..

NQT Session 2 – Top Marks

Thursday 9th January 2020 (8.45 – 11.45am)

How can formative assessment support pupil progress?

This session contains a range of practical ideas and strategies to take back in to the classroom.

Linked to Teacher Standard 6 – Make accurate and productive use of assessment.

NQT Session 3 – Pitch Perfect

Thursday 27th February 2020 (8.45 – 11.45am)

How can personalised differentiation lead to effective outcomes for all?

This session contains practical strategies to ensure challenge and engagement.

Linked to Teacher Standard 5 – Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils.

NQT Session 4 – Inclusion

Thursday 30th April 2020 (8.45 – 11.45am)

How do we provide for the specific needs of a wide range of pupils?

The session looks at inclusion across the primary school and multi-agency working.  It provides teachers with a range of responses and proactive strategies to use with children.

Linked to Teacher Standard 5 – Adapt teaching to respond to the strengths and needs of all pupils.

NQT Session 5 – Next Steps

Thursday 11th June 2020 (8.45 – 11.45am)

How do I keep the momentum going to develop as an outstanding teacher and potential leader?

The session explores career ambitions; professional pathways, CPD opportunities; professional development profiles and health and well being.

Linked to the standard for teachers’ professional development.

NQT Induction for Mentors (click for details)

NQT Induction for Mentors

How being a mentor supports your own development as a teacher and leader.

This session is suitable for anyone who is new to the role of NQT Mentor or would like to refresh their skills.

This session will explore:

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Support and challenge
  • Observation and feedback
  • Giving difficult messages/dealing with concerns
  • Assessment points
  • Expectations from the Early Career Framework

Primary NQT Network Launch Event Programme

  • Date: Monday 16 September 2019

This year’s launch event for primary NQTs is set to be inspiring, empowering and practical.

Setting the tone for the year ahead, the Primary NQT Conference will feature inspirational speakers, a programme introduction and information on surviving your NQT year.

Event content:

  • Behaviour session with expert Jason Bangbala
  • Programme introduction: Entitlement, support and an overview of induction
  • Surviving your NQT year: RQTs from the previous year share their stories and advice
  • Opportunities to meet and network collaboratively with other Newly Qualified Teachers

Jason Bangbala is a leading Educational Consultant, delivering his unique style of training to organisations across the UK. As well as training courses and consultancy work, he continues to be an active classroom practitioner. Before setting up his own training and consultancy business, Jason was a highly successful Classroom Teacher and Senior Manager in Secondary Education. His teaching experience has been based on working in challenging areas, challenging schools and with challenging pupils.
