Programme Introduction

We are very pleased to announce the details of our Primary NQT Development Programme 2017/18, including the return of inspirational speaker Jason Bangbala for the “Releasing Potential” conference on Monday 18 September 2017. This page outlines the details for our 2017/18 Primary NQT Development Programme and provides booking information.

BTSA is an Appropriate Body for NQT Induction.

In addition to undertaking verification of NQT induction assessments we are also offering a full range of NQT support services and CPD including:

  • A full day NQT conference featuring inspirational speakers and workshops (Monday 18 September 2017).
  • Five half termly CPD training sessions covering areas for development that NQTs identified themselves.
  • These sessions are delivered by a range of experts from across the Alliance and include opportunities to work with experienced colleagues in a different school context.
  • New NQT Induction Training and Mentor Handbook.
  • Extra support visits can be arranged at an additional charge for NQTs judged not to be making adequate progress against the Teacher Standards.

NQT CPD Sessions (click for details)

All sessions take place at Belgrave St. Bartholomew’s Academy.

NQT session 1 – Core Blimey

The statutory induction year is a bridge between initial teaching training and a career in teaching.

This session encourages NQT’s to reflect on their progress against the Teacher Standards and to consider focus areas for development.

Morning sessions will take place during Autumn term 2.

NQT session 2 – Top Marks

Looking at the role of assessment and data in ensuring progress.

This session contains many practical ideas and strategies to take back in to the classroom.

Morning sessions will take place during Spring term 1.

NQT session 3 – Pitch Perfect

Exploring how differentiation and the pitch of a lesson is key to effective delivery.

This session contains practical strategies to ensure challenge and engagement through questioning.

Morning sessions will take place during Spring term 2.

NQT session 4 – Inclusion

The session will help NQTs to develop an understanding of why pupils might behave in certain ways and examine a range of responses and proactive strategies useful for dealing effectively with them. The session looks at inclusion across the primary school and multi-agency working.

Morning sessions will take place during Summer term 1.

NQT session 5 – Next Steps

What next? A session exploring how to keep the momentum going to ensure you develop as an outstanding teacher and potential leader. The session will explore career ambitions; the professional pathways and CPD opportunities; professional development profiles and health and well being.

NQT Induction for Mentors (click for details)

NQT Induction for Mentors

How being a mentor supports your own development as a teacher and leader.

This session will explore:

  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Support and challenge
  • Observation and feedback
  • Giving difficult messages/dealing with concerns
  • Assessment points and the role of BTSA as an Appropriate Body

This year’s launch event for primary NQTs is set to be inspiring, empowering and practical.

Setting the tone for the year ahead, the Primary NQT Conference will feature inspirational speakers, a programme introduction and workshops on surviving your NQT year and behaviour.

Morning speaker:

  • An inspirational morning with Jason Bangala

Afternoon workshops:

  • Programme introduction: Entitlement, support and an overview of your NQT files
  • Surviving your NQT year: NQTs from the previous year share their stories and advice
  • Behaviour: Jason Bangbala discusses the practical strategies for promoting positive behaviour

Jason Bangbala is a leading Educational Consultant, delivering his unique style of training to organisations across the UK. As well as training courses and consultancy work, he continues to be an active classroom practitioner. Before setting up his own training and consultancy business, Jason was a highly successful Classroom Teacher and Senior Manager in Secondary Education. His teaching experience has been based on working in challenging areas, challenging schools and with challenging pupils.

  • NQT Appropriate Body: £240
  • One day conference: £150
  • Individual half day CPD sessions: £80 per session
  • Induction for mentors: £80

Alternatively, you can book the full NQT package at a cost of £675 for each participant.
