Details and content

This effective intervention focuses on helping both pupils and staff to develop a ‘Growth Mindset’ in order to raise motivation and achievement.

It is based on research by Professor Carol Dweck which shows that teacher and pupil beliefs about intelligence impact on their learning.

The course content includes:

  • A background of the theories of intelligence
  • Exploring the evidence
  • How to promote a Growth Mindset in everyday practice
  • A whole school approach to promoting a Growth Mindset

This course also includes an evaluation tool and a 6 week programme for your pupils.

Pupils who believe that intelligence is innate (a ‘Fixed Mindset’) are less likely to persist in the face of difficulty; where they believe ability in a task can be improved (a ‘Growth Mindset’), they see difficulty as a natural part of learning and persevere with tasks and challenges set.
