Appropriate Body Role

Appropriate Body Role

The appointment of an Appropriate Body is a statutory requirement for the induction period of Newly Qualified Teachers and an NQT cannot start their induction until their Appropriate Body has been agreed. As an Appropriate Body, BTSA will undertake the necessary verification and administrative processes on your behalf. This includes:

  • Registering the NQT with ourselves and the DfE

  • Maintaining records and assessment reports

  • Making the final decision as to whether or not the NQT’s performance against the Teaching Standards is satisfactory, drawing on the recommendations of the Headteacher/Principal

  • Notifying the DfE of the decision

  • Providing a named contact and advice line for support and guidance

In addition to BTSA’s role acting as an Appropriate Body to undertake the verification of NQT induction assessments we are offering a full range of NQT support services. They include the following:

  • A half day NQT launch event featuring inspirational speakers and workshops

  • Five half termly training sessions covering the following areas:

–  Foundations of Teaching and Learning

–  Behaviour For Learning and SEND

–  Assessment and Data and impact on progress

–  Differentiation and Questioning

–  Next Steps

– Moving on in your career

These sessions will allow for opportunities to network and to observe teaching practice in an “Outstanding” setting.

  • New NQT Induction Training and Mentor Handbook

  • Support visits for NQTs judged not to be making adequate progress against the standards

Schools can choose to purchase the complete package of Appropriate Body requirements and package of support for £675. Alternatively, schools can choose to purchase the following elements of the programme:
