Early Career Teachers

Early Career Development Programme For NQTs and RQTs

We are proud to present the BTSA Early Career Development Programme For Newly and Recently Qualified Teachers.

Our brand new professional development programme is aimed at Primary practitioners in their first or second year of teaching. Each session covers content from the Early Career Framework (ECF) published by the Department of Education and independently assessed by the Education Endowment Foundation.

The framework is:

  • Designed around how to support all pupils to succeed and seeks to widen access for all
  • Endorsed by a wide range of sector bodies including unions
  • A bridge that builds on ITT and provides a platform for future development
  • Structured to cover areas in greater depth as teachers continue to become experts
  • Linked to the best available research evidence

The full programme consists of six half termly sessions that provide participants with ongoing high quality evidence led professional development and supports the teacher career pathway. Alternatively participants can attend individual sessions that target their current needs.

BTSA aim to provide the best possible service to schools so, if problems occur, additional support is readily available in the form of email, telephone support and school visits. It is important to us that we do our best to support everyone concerned in obtaining successful outcomes.

The NQT Induction Year is challenging but by working in partnership, BTSA and schools will provide the profession with teachers who can motivate, inspire and ensure all pupils make good progress in their learning.

BTSA has a proud history of supporting Newly Qualified Teachers and Recently Qualified Teachers in their Induction year and beyond. To supplement this support we offer a range of resources which will help you manage your workload and complete your induction successfully; these resources can be accessed here.

Appropriate Body Role

The appointment of an Appropriate Body is a statutory requirement for the induction period of Newly Qualified Teachers and an NQT cannot start their induction until their Appropriate Body has been agreed.

As an Appropriate Body, BTSA will undertake the necessary verification and administrative processes on your behalf.

BTSA offers regular training on how being a NQT mentor supports your own development as a teacher and leader.
